The Peplum Belt: Tips For Storage And Care
Every time I pack a peplum belt to send to a customer, I struggle to fold it neatly. After all, this belt is designed with volume in mind… it’s not meant to lay flat!
There’s a few peplum belts in my shop, each made from different fabrics and featuring unique details, but the advice below applies to all of them.
The Best Way to Store Your Peplum Belt
To avoid having to iron your belt, hang it up for storage. A pant hanger with clips works best, but if you don’t have one, a regular hanger with two clothes pins will do the job.
Loosely fasten the ties and clip both sides of the belt to the hanger. This way it won’t wrinkle… and won’t get lost on a drawer.

How To Care For Your Peplum Belt
As noted on the tags, I strongly recommend hand washing your peplum belt! Rinse thoroughly and gently wring it out. To remove excess water, lay the belt flat on a dry towel and roll it up. Press gently as you roll to help the towel absorb moisture.
You can hang the belt to dry or lay it flat on a mesh drying rack or towel.
If you prefer not to hand wash it, place the belt in a lingerie bag before putting it in the washing machine. This will prevent the ties from tangling and reduce friction with other clothes.
Remember, since the peplum is worn over other clothing, it doesn’t need to be washed frequently.
Some peplum belts may wrinkle. The solid color peplum belt with self-fabric ties is made of a poly-cotton blend ( 35% cotton, 65% polyester) and does wrinkle if folded or crumpled. Hanging it for storage will minimize wrinkles, but you may still need to iron it after washing. Use a medium-heat iron with or without steam, or opt for a handheld clothes steamer for a quick fix.
What To Do If The Ties Are Too Long
For Peplum With Ribbon as Ties
Use sharp scissors to trim the ties to your preferred length. Then, use a lighter or candle to melt the end of the ribbon near the flame. This will seal the fibers and prevent fraying. Be careful—this process only takes a second! Move the edge to seal the entire width of the ribbon.
For Peplum With Sewn Ties
If you don’t have sewing experience, I recommend taking the belt to a tailor to have the ties shortened. Ideally, the waistband should be opened, the ties turned inside out, re-sewn, turned right side out again, and the opening discreetly closed.
Alternatively, you can cut the ties about 1 cm longer than the desired length, fold the edges inward, press carefully, and topstitch or hand-stitch the ends. Depending on your skill level, the stitching may be more or less visible.
